What are Implant Dentures?

Implant dentures (per their name) are those that use dental implants. Since their implant posts fuse with your jaw, they remain secure and stable over time. That means these dentures can quickly give your smile an entire arch of pretty and lifelike teeth.

That said, it’s not as if all implant dentures are identical. Dr. Miedema will suggest you get one of two kinds at your initial consultation. These types are the following:

Fixed/Permanent Implant Dentures

Fixed or “permanent” implant dentures stay firmly in place and can only be removed by dentists. In most cases, they rely on four to fix strategically placed dental implants.

Many patients enjoy fixed implant dentures for their security, and they can be cleaned like natural teeth. Still, these dentures only work for patients with high jawbone density.

Removable Implant Dentures

Unlike a fixed one, a removable implant denture can be removed at will. It works by “snapping on” to implant posts with clips or ball sockets.

An upside to these implant dentures is that they’re less invasive. In particular, they only place two to five implants and thus require less jawbone density.

If we believe implant dentures suit you, implant dentures suit you, we’ll draft a custom treatment plan that outlines your care. It’ll ensure you get the best possible results.

No matter the details, every implant denture treatment has three key steps. The first is implant surgery, which places the implants in your jaw. Next comes the post-surgery recovery – the period when you’ll heal from the placement and let your posts fuse with your jaw. For the last phase of treatment, your final denture will be delivered and placed. We’ll attach the device so it blends with any other remaining teeth.

Am I a Candidate for Implant Dentures?

  • No major pre-existing oral issues
  • A commitment to good oral hygiene
