What Happens During a Root Canal?

The root canal process will begin when our team administers local anesthesia to numb your mouth. After securing a dental dam in place to isolate the tooth from saliva and other substances, we will create a small opening at the top of the tooth (the crown). From there, we can access the inner layers of the tooth.

We’ll start to clear out any decayed or damaged areas, including the chambers. After removing the affected pulp, we will sanitize the tooth and fill it with a biocompatible substance known as gutta-percha. A tight seal will be formed at the top of the tooth so that bacteria cannot penetrate.

After taking impressions of the tooth, we will have a customized dental crown created so that it fits over the vulnerable tooth and offers maximum protection while it heals and strengthens over time.
